Veterinary drug UTEROPYRIN
Therapeutic indications:
The drug is used to treat cows with subacute (not earlier than 14 days after calving) and chronic, including latent (subclinical), forms of endometritis caused by microorganisms sensitive to cephapirin.
Composition of the veterinary drug:
19 g of the drug (one syringe-injector) contains:
Pharmacological activity:
UTEROPYRIN is an antibacterial drug. Cephapirin, which is the active substance of the drug, has a broad spectrum of action against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria such as Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., Pasteurella spp., Proteus spp., Fusobacterium necrophorum, Escherichia coli, Haemophilus spp. and other pathogenic microorganisms.
Cephapirin inhibits the cell wall synthesis, thus revealing its bactericidal effect, that leads to the cytoplasmic membrane disruption and the bacterial cell death. The antibiotic is resistant to penicillinase and remains active in aerobic and anaerobic conditions.
Being administered via intrauterine injection, cephapirin is poorly absorbed and penetrates into the systemic bloodstream to an insignificant extent. The maximum concentration of cephapirin in plasma after 1-2 hours is 0.11-0.44 µg/ml. Cephapirin penetrates easily from the uterine cavity to the endometrium. Being administered via intrauterine injection once, the bactericidal concentration of cephapirin is maintained for at least 24 hours. Cephapirin and its metabolite deacetylcephapirin are mainly excreted from the organism with urine in unchanged form.
Dosage:
Before the intrauterine administration of the drug, the external genital organs and the root of the tail are treated with an antiseptic. If necessary, the inflammatory exudate should be removed from the uterine cavity.
The drug is administered via intrauterine injection at a single dose of 19 g (one syringe). Use a disposable polystyrene pipette and glove. Before use, the syringe should be thoroughly shaken. Connect the syringe to the polystyrene pipette. Use a disposable polyethylene glove to rectally fix the cervix, then carefully insert the pipette into the cervix and squeeze out the syringe content. If necessary, the injection of the same dose is repeated after 7-14 days.
For uterine sanitation and the treatment of subclinical endometritis the drug is administered via intrauterine injection at a single dose of 0.5-1 syringe-injector after artificial insemination (12-24 hours) in cows.
In the case of pyometra preliminary treatment with F2α prostaglandin is recommended for the luteolysis induction and uterine contractile function increase. Pre-administration of F2α prostaglandin significantly improves the efficiency of treatment and eliminates the need for repeated use.
Contraindications:
The drug must not be used in animals with hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.
Overdose:
No symptoms of overdose have been identified with the use of the drug.
Pregnancy and lactation:
The drug is not intended for use during pregnancy. It can be used during lactation.
Special indications:
After the first administration and cancellation no peculiarities of the drug use are revealed.
Side effects and individual intolerance:
When the drug is used in recommended doses and in accordance with all the instructions, side effects and complications are generally not observed.
Interaction with other veterinary drugs:
Do not use the drug simultaneously with other drugs which are administered via intrauterine injection.
Withdrawal period:
Animals must not be slaughtered for human consumption within 24 hours after the last drug administration. Meat of animals forcibly slaughtered earlier than the specified period expires may be used to feed carnivores. Milk obtained from cows is not allowed for human consumption within 24 hours after the drug administration. Milk obtained before the specified period can be used as animal feed after boiling.
Storage conditions:
The drug should be stored in a dark place at a temperature between 15 °C to 25 °C.
Shelf-life:
Shelf-life of the veterinary drug is 3 years from the date of manufacture.
