Salicylate-P

Veterinary drug SALICYLATE-P

Anti-inflammatory and analgesic agent for cattle, small ruminants, pigs and poultry

  • Anti-inflammatory, antipyretic and analgesic action

  • Prevents thrombosis

  • Easy to administer (with water or feed, individually or in groups)

  • Rapidly absorbed and penetrates most organs and tissues

  • Withdrawal period for meat: 1 day

  • Effective in the treatment of mastitis-metritis agalactia (MMA) syndrome

Therapeutic indications:

The drug is used in cattle and pigs for treatment of diseases accompanied by symptoms of inflammation and pain syndrome, including respiratory and gastrointestinal diseases, mastitis-metritis-agalactia (MMA) syndrome in pigs, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, muscle and postoperative pain, heat stress in animals; agricultural poultry (broilers, breeding poultry, poultry of parental flock, repair young chickens) in heat stress caused by high temperatures and in infectious diseases as a part of complex therapy.

Composition of the veterinary drug:

1 g of the drug contains:

•          700 mg of acetylsalicylic acid

Pharmacological activity:

The drug belongs to the group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

Acetylsalicylic acid, the active substance of the drug, is a complex ester of salicylic acid and has anti-inflammatory, antipyretic and analgesic effect, prevents thrombosis.

Acetylsalicylic acid inhibits cyclooxygenase and irreversibly inhibits the cyclooxygenase pathway of arachidonic acid metabolism. Reduces hyperaemia, exudation, capillary permeability, hyaluronidase activity, limits the energy supply of the inflammatory process by inhibiting ATP production. Acetylsalicylic acid affects subcortical centres of thermoregulation and pain sensitivity. Reduction of prostaglandins in the centre of thermoregulation leads to a decrease in body temperature due to dilation of skin vessels and increased sweating. Analgesic effect is due to the influence on pain sensitivity centres, as well as peripheral anti-inflammatory action and the ability of salicylates to reduce the algogenic effect of bradykinin (mediator of pain and inflammation). Reduction of thromboxane content in platelets leads to irreversible suppression of aggregation, slightly dilates vessels.

After oral administration of the drug, acetylsalicylic acid is rapidly absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract and penetrates into most organs and tissues of the body. It is metabolised in the liver with formation of salicyluric acid, salicylglucoronide and gentisic acid. In blood 70-90 % of acetylsalicylic acid is bound to plasma proteins. Salicylates and their metabolites are excreted by kidneys (filtration and tubule secretion).

Dosage:

The drug is administered with water for drinking or mixed with feed for 3-5 days in the following daily doses (daily doses may be divided into two doses):

  • cattle and small cattle - 1 g of drug per 7 kg of animal body weight;
  • pigs - 0.5-1.0 g of the drug per 7 kg of animal body weight;
  • poultry - 0.5-1.0 g of drug per 7 kg of body weight of poultry, which corresponds to 300-600 g of drug per 1000 litres of drinking water.

The drug is administered to groups during 3-5 days at a dose of 300-600 g of the drug per 1000 litres of drinking water. It is allowed to increase the drug dose up to 1200 g per 1000 litres of drinking water in case of high temperature conditions in poultry houses, heat stress, high density of population and severe clinical conditions of poultry.

Stock solution is prepared by dissolving no more than 1 kg of the drug in 10 litres of drinking water with periodic stirring. Optimal water temperature should be within 25-35°C. Foaming is possible when dissolving the preparation. When drug is completely dissolved, the stock solution is mixed with the required amount of water. Using pulse-dosing is possible.

Precautions and adverse reactions:

When used in accordance with the instruction, side effects and complications are generally not observed. In animals and poultry with increased individual sensitivity to components of the drug symptoms of an allergic reaction occur. In this case, the drug should be cancelled; antihistamines and other symptomatic treatment should be prescribed.

Use of the drug is contraindicated in animals and poultry with hypersensitivity to salicylates and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

Do not use the drug to piglets under 30 days of age, old animals, as well as animals with diseases of gastrointestinal tract, hepatic or renal insufficiency, with blood coagulation disorders, when using anticoagulants, as well as 2 weeks before planned surgery.

Administration of the drug is contraindicated in animals and poultry with severe dehydration, hypovolaemia or hypotension, which require parenteral rehydration.

In case of drug overdose in animals and poultry intoxication may be observed, manifested by nausea, haemorrhagic diarrhoea, respiratory disorders (tachypnoea, polypnoea), haematological disorders (anaemia, haematomas, nose bleeding). In this case, the drug is cancelled and symptomatic treatment is administered, if necessary.

It is not recommended to use the drug together with other anti-inflammatory non-steroidal drugs and glucocorticosteroids. Do not use together with aminoglycoside antibiotics and fluoroquinolones, as kidney toxicity increases. Acetylsalicylic acid enhances the effect of anticoagulants, analgesics, anaesthetics and tranquillisers.

After the first administration and cancellation no peculiarities are revealed.

Avoid missing the next dose of the drug, as it may lead to the reduced therapeutic effect. If administration of the veterinary drug is missed, resume it in the same dosage and according to the same treatment scheme as soon as possible. Do not increase the dose to compensate the missing one.

Do not administer the drug to animals during pregnancy and lactation, as well as to young hens less than 4 weeks before the start of oviposition.

Do not administer the drug to poultry, whose eggs are used for human consumption.

Do not administer the drug to productive animals, whose milk is used for human consumption.

Withdrawal period:

Animals and poultry must not be slaughtered for human consumption before 1 days after the last drug administration. Meat of animals and poultry forcibly slaughtered before the specified period expires may be used for feeding carnivores.

Storage conditions:

Store in a dark place at a temperature between + 2 ° C to + 25 ° C.

The drug should be kept out of reach of children.

Shelf-life:

Shelf-life of the veterinary drug is 2 years from the date of manufacture. Shelf-life after the first opening of the package is 3 month under appropriate storage conditions. The prepared solution of the drug must be used during 24 hours. Do not use the drug after expiry date.
