  • Treatment of ovarian hypofunction in cows

  • Treatment of ovarian follicular cysts in cows

Therapeutic indications:

BAG- Surfagon is indicated for cattle for induction of estrous cycle, prevention of perinatal mortality, induction of superovulation in donor cows, improvement of fertility, and for treatment of ovarian hypofunction and ovarian follicular cysts; for pigs and sheep for induction of estrous and improvement of fertility.

Composition of the veterinary drug:

1 ml BAG- Surfagon solution for injection contains:

Surfagon 5 microgram as an active compound

Pharmacological activity:

The active substance of the veterinary drug is synthetic surfagon oligopeptide, which is an analog of the gonadotropin-releasing hormone or luliberin (LH-RH). Upon parenteral administration pharmacological activity of BAG- Surfagon is identical to the activity of endogenous luliberin, which stimulates the release of gonadotropins (luteinizing and follicle - stimulating hormones) from the anterior pituitary into blood, and the maximum concentration of surfagon is recorded 2-3 hours after administration.

An increased level of gonadotropins in blood is maintained for up to 4-5 hours after administration. The biological activity of BAG-Surfagon is 50 times higher than that of endogenous luliberin, which allows the use of this veterinary drug in microdoses and short courses. BAG-Surfagon is destroyed by enzymes more slowly than endogenous luliberin. This ensures its higher biological activity towards the pituitary gonadotropic function.

Dosage:

Cattle:

  • For early induction of estrous cycle:

Method 1. Single dose of 50 mcg is administered on the 5-15th day after calving.

Method 2. Single dose of 50 mcg of BAG-Surfagon is administered on the 8-10th day after calving, then single dose of 250 mcg of estrofan is administered on the 18-20th day after calving (regardless of the condition of the uterus) and single dose of 15-25 mcg of BAG-Surfagon is administered on the 36th day after calving.

  • For treatment of ovarian hypofunction – double administration: dose of 50 mcg is administered on the 8-12th day of estrous cycle and dose of 10-25 mcg is administered 10 days after the first administration.
  • For treatment of ovarian follicular cysts – 25 mcg is administered 3 times with 24 hours intervals. Single dose of 250 mcg of estrofan or 100-200 mcg of clathraprostin is administered on the 11th day after the first administration of BAG-Surfagon, 2 times, at 10-12 hours intervals.
