Veterinary drug BAG-Surfagon
Therapeutic indications:
BAG- Surfagon is indicated for cattle for induction of estrous cycle, prevention of perinatal mortality, induction of superovulation in donor cows, improvement of fertility, and for treatment of ovarian hypofunction and ovarian follicular cysts; for pigs and sheep for induction of estrous and improvement of fertility.
Composition of the veterinary drug:
1 ml BAG- Surfagon solution for injection contains:
Surfagon 5 microgram as an active compound
Pharmacological activity:
The active substance of the veterinary drug is synthetic surfagon oligopeptide, which is an analog of the gonadotropin-releasing hormone or luliberin (LH-RH). Upon parenteral administration pharmacological activity of BAG- Surfagon is identical to the activity of endogenous luliberin, which stimulates the release of gonadotropins (luteinizing and follicle - stimulating hormones) from the anterior pituitary into blood, and the maximum concentration of surfagon is recorded 2-3 hours after administration.
An increased level of gonadotropins in blood is maintained for up to 4-5 hours after administration. The biological activity of BAG-Surfagon is 50 times higher than that of endogenous luliberin, which allows the use of this veterinary drug in microdoses and short courses. BAG-Surfagon is destroyed by enzymes more slowly than endogenous luliberin. This ensures its higher biological activity towards the pituitary gonadotropic function.
