Lincomycin-P 200

Therapeutic indications:

The drug is used for the treatement of infectious diseases caused by microorganisms sensitive to lincomycin in pigs and poultry (broiler chickens, laying hens). The drug is effective in anaerobic infections of gastrointestinal tract, enzootic pneumonia of pigs, dysentery, mycoplasmosis of birds, as well as in bacterial diseases of musculoskeletal system, bacterial complications of viral infections accompanied by respiratory system damage.

Composition of the veterinary drug:

1 g of the drug contains:

•        200 mg of lincomycin hydrochloride

Pharmacological activity:

The drug belongs to antibacterial agents of the lincosamide group.

Lincomycin is the active substance of the drug, which is produced by Streptomyces lincolnensis. It reveals bacteriostatic effect against Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp. (including penicillinase-producing), Corynebacterium spp., Clostridium spp., Brachyspira hyodysenteriae, Bacteroides spp., Actinomyces spp. as well as Mycoplasma spp. and Haemophilus influenzae.

Lincomycin inhibits protein synthesis through binding to 50S-subunit of ribosomes and disruption of peptide bonds formation.

Lincomycin is well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and penetrates into all organs and tissues of animals and poultry. Maximum concentration in blood is reached 2-4 hours after the drug administration. Excreted from the body unchanged mainly with urine (up to 14%) and faeces (up to 75%).

Dosage:

The drug is administered orally mixed with feed or drinking water in the following daily doses:

• pigs - 0,025-0,05 g of the drug per 1 kg of animal body weight (equivalent to 1-2 g of the drug per 40 kg of animal body weight), or 750-1500 g of the drug per 1 tonne of feed, or 225-450 g of the drug per 1 tonne of drinking water for 3-5 days, in case of enzootic (mycoplasma) pneumonia, dysentery, anaerobic infections for 10-14 days;
• poultry - 0.015-0.03 g of drug per 1 kg of bird body weight (equivalent to 1.5-3 g of drug per 100 kg of bird body weight), which is 100-400 g of drug per 1 tonne of feed or 50-200 g of drug per 1 tonne of drinking water for 3-5 days, in case of mycoplasmosis and anaerobic infections during 10-14 days, in case of necrotising enteritis for 7 days.

The drug solution should be the only source of drinking water for animals and poultry during the treatment period. Aqueous solution of the drug shall be prepared daily in the volume adequate for daily consumption.

Precautions and adverse reactions:

When used in accordance with the instruction, side effects and complications are generally not observed. In animals and poultry with increased individual sensitivity to components of the drug, symptoms of an allergic reaction or development of dysbiosis may occur. In this case, the drug should be cancelled; antihistamines and other symptomatic treatment should be prescribed.

Do not use in animals and poultry with increased individual sensitivity to the components of the drug, as well as with kidney and liver diseases. Do not use in horses, ruminants and rabbits.

In case of drug overdose, gastrointestinal tract dysfunctions and reduced feed intake may be observed in animals and poultry. In this case the drug is cancelled and symptomatic treatment is prescribed. There are no specific antidotes.

Do not use this drug simultaneously with macrolides and penicillins. Co-administration of the drug with antacids, as well as concomitantly with activated charcoal, pectin or kaolin is not recommended.

At the beginning of drug administration in pigs may appear diarrhoea and/or swelling of rectal mucosa, in rare cases skin redness may occur. These signs disappear within 5-8 days without discontinuation of the drug administration. No peculiarities of the drug action at cancellation of administration have been revealed.

Avoid missing the next dose of the drug, as it may lead to the reduced therapeutic effect. If administration of the veterinary drug is missed, resume it in the same dosage and according to the same treatment scheme as soon as possible. Do not increase the dose to compensate the missing one.

Do not use during pregnancy and lactation period.

Do not use in poultry, whose eggs are used for human food.

Withdrawal period:

Animals must not be slaughtered for human consumption before 10 days after the last drug administration, poultry - before 3 days. Meat of animals forcibly slaughtered before the specified period expires may be used for feeding carnivores.

Storage conditions:

Store in a dark place at a temperature between  2 ° C to  25 ° C.

The drug should be kept out of reach of children.

Shelf-life:

Shelf-life of the veterinary drug is 2 years from the date of manufacture. Shelf-life after the first opening of the package is 3 month under appropriate storage conditions. The prepared water solution should be used within 24 hours. Do not use the drug after expiry date.
