Therapeutic indications:

The drug is used in animals to:

·       prevent diseases caused by iron, iodine, magnesium and selenium deficiency; 

·       treat enzootic goiter, as well as hypomagnesemia and white-muscle disease;

·       stimulate growth;

·       increase the nonspecific resistance of the young stock,

·       increase the reproductive capacity in cows and sows,

·       prevent postpartum complications in cows and sows.

Composition of the veterinary drug:

1 ml of the drug contains:

  • 15 mg of iron dextran,
  • 5.5 mg of potassium iodide,
  • 5.5 mg of magnesium chloride,
  • 0.35 mg of sodium selenite as the active substances.

Pharmacological activity:

The drug contains a mineral mix to treat iron, iodine, magnesium and selenium deficiency in animals.

Iron stimulates erythropoiesis and hemoglobin synthesis; increases the overall resistance of the body.

Iodine is an essential component of thyroid hormones that regulate the level of basal metabolic rate, thermoregulation, growth energy. Iodine regulates the activity of the central nervous and cardiovascular systems, gastrointestinal tract, haematopoiesis and immunity.

Magnesium stimulates tissue respiration, protein and carbohydrate metabolism.

Selenium is an integral part of specific enzymes that prevent the production of peroxide compounds in animal cells and tissues. Selenium contributes to the normal functioning of the thyroid gland.

The drug is excreted from the body of animals mainly with urine.

Dosage:

The drug is administered to animals via intramuscular or subcutaneous injection to:

  • heifers and cows as a single dose of  per animal 25-45 days before calving;
  • calves as a single therapeutic dose of 2.5 ml per 10 kg of animal body weight. Do not inject more than 10 ml per animal. With prophylactic purposes dose for calves is  1.5 ml per 10 kg of animal body weight;
  • highly productive breeding sows - at a dose of 12-15 ml per animal 8-12 days before piglets weaning and 20-25 days before farrowing;
  • replacement gilts - at a dose of 8 ml per animal 7-14 days before the expected insemination and 20-25 days before farrowing;
  • suckling piglets, for the prevention of anemia - at a dose of 1.5 ml per 1 kg of animal body weight, twice, on the 3-5 and 10-15 days of life;
  • pigs as a single dose of 0.5 ml per 1 kg of animal body weight. Do not inject more than 5 ml per 1 animal.

If necessary, the drug is administered in the same doses, but not earlier than 10 days after the first treatment.

Precautions and adverse reactions:

When the drug is used in recommended doses and in accordance with all the instructions, side effects and complications are generally not observed. Allergic reactions may occur in animals with increased individual sensitivity to the drug components. In this case, discontinue use of the drug, if necessary, prescribe antihistamines and provide symptomatic treatment. It is recommended to conduct a tolerance test for 3-5 animals 24 hours before mass treatments.

Do not use the drug in animals is hypersensitivity to components of the drug, as well as in animals that were treated within the last 10 days with preparations containing iodine and/or selenium.

No overdose symptoms have been revealed.

SELEMIN PLUS may be used simultaneously with other drugs. Do not mix the drug in one syringe with other medicinal products.

After the first administration and cancellation no peculiarities have been revealed.

Withdrawal period:

Animals must not be slaughtered for human consumption before 7 days after the last drug administration. Liver and kidneys must not be used for human consumption during the treatment period and within 14 days after the last drug administration. Meat and by-products of animals forcibly slaughtered before the specified period expires may be used for feeding carnivores.

No withdrawal period for milk. 

Storage conditions:

Store in a dark place at a temperature between +2°C to +25°C.

The drug should be kept out of the reach of children.

Shelf-life:

Shelf-life of the veterinary drug under appropriate storage conditions is 2 years from the date of manufacture, after the first opening of the bottle - 28 days.
