Veterinary drug FERRUMVET 200
Therapeutic indications:
FERRUMVET 200 is used in pigs, cattle, foals for the prevention of iron-deficiency anemia and for the treatment of diseases caused by iron and vitamin B12 deficiency. FERRUMVET 200 may also be used for metabolism improvement.
Composition of the veterinary drug:
1.0 ml of the drug contains:
Pharmacological activity:
The pharmacological properties of FERRUMVET 200 result from the action of iron and vitamin B12 on the animal body. The active substances of the drug stimulate erythropoiesis. In addition, iron is a part of heme-containing organic compounds (hemoglobin, myoglobin and heme-containing enzymes) and non-heme organic compounds (transferrin, ferritin, hemosiderin and proteinates), which all play an important role in haematopoiesis, gas and energy metabolism, many redox reactions and has protective functions. This micro-element is necessary for the hemoglobin synthesis, maturation and saturation of erythrocytes with hemoglobin.
Vitamin B12 increases the iron levels, has a positive effect on haematopoiesis, liver and nervous system function, activates the blood coagulation system, and increases the resistance of the animal body to unfavorable environmental factors due to its participation in the synthesis of methyl groups and the choline, methionine, creatine, nucleic acids production.
When administered via intramuscular injection, FERRUMVET is rapidly absorbed and distributed throughout the body and accumulated in the liver and other haematopoietic organs.
Dosage:
The drug is administered via intramuscular injection. If necessary, warm FERRUMVET 200 in a water bath (36-38 °C) before use.
For prophylactic purposes, the drug is administered via intramuscular injection in the following doses (per one animal) to:
If necessary, the drug treatment is repeated in the same dose in 10-14 days.
For the treatment of iron-deficiency and metabolic diseases in animals, the drug is administered via intramuscular injection in the following doses:
If necessary, the drug treatment is repeated in the same doses in 10-14 days.
Precautions and adverse reactions:
When the drug is used in recommended doses and in accordance with all the instructions, side effects and complications are generally not observed. Sometimes, side effects such as tachycardia, the gastrointestinal tract dysfunction (diarrhea, constipation) and increased individual sensitivity to the components of FERRUMVET 200 (edema, skin rash, itching, dermatitis) may be observed. It is recommended to conduct a tolerance test for 3-5 animals one day before mass treatments. If symptoms of an allergic reaction occur, antihistamines and calcium should be prescribed. At the injection site, darkened skin may be observed.
Do not use the drug in animals with increased individual sensitivity to the components of the drug, vitamin E and selenium deficiency, as well as in animals with diarrhea. Animals should not be treated with other preparations containing iron during the last 10 days. Do not mix FERRUMVET 200 (in the same syringe) with vitamins B1, B6 and in combination with tetracycline,
