Iodbarrier 0.25

Ready-to-use antiseptic solution IODBARRIER 0.25

Antiseptic for the prevention of mastitis in dairy cows

  • Contains active iodine

  • Forms permeable to oxygen protective film on the teat skin

  • Highly effective against gram-positive and gram-negative pathogenic microorganisms and fungi

Indications:

IODBARRIER 0.25 % is used as an antiseptic agent for the disinfection of the udder skin and teats after milking in order to prevent mastitis.

Composition of the veterinary drug:

The antiseptic solution contains:

 • 0.25% of active iodine

Biological activity:

Iodine has various antibacterial activities against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, including E. coli, Klebsiella spp., Salmonella spp., Proteus spp., Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., Micrococcus spp., Bacillus spp., Corynebacterium pyogenes, Enterobacter spp. and fungi.

The antiseptic effect of the product is due to the ability of active iodine to inhibit the metabolic processes of pathogens.  Penetrating into the protoplasm of cells, iodine reacts with amino groups of proteins, changing their composition and suppressing vital enzyme systems.  When iodine reacts with water, the protoplasm of the cells produces active oxygen, which has a strong oxidizing effect. The same destructive effect iodine reveals on mushrooms.

The antiseptic preparation forms the protective film on the surface of the udder skin and teats, which acts as a chemical defense against all types of bacteria and fungi.  After drying, the protective film is breathable and does not crack. The antiseptic effect of the drug is maintained until the protective film is removed (washed off).

The drug does not have a local irritant and sensitizing effect, and is classified as low-hazard substance.

Usage:

At the end of milking, remove the milking machine and immediately dip teats in a cup with a ready-to-use solution for disinfection. At least 1/2 of the udder skin and teats’ surface should be treated with solution. Do not wipe off.

You can use any inert container suitable for dipping the teats. The cup should be washed and disinfected after each milking.

If the cup with a ready-to-use solution become contaminated, the contents should be poured out, the cup washed and filled with the drug once again. Do not pour the residue into a canister with a clean product.

To transfer the required amount of the antiseptic solution from large-volume packages, special dosing pumps are used to prevent contamination of the solution by microorganisms.

Do not mix the antiseptic solution with water, other antiseptic preparations and medications.

Follow the rules of personal hygiene and safety while handling the drug.

Precautions and adverse reactions:

Do not use in animals with hypersensitivity to the components of the antiseptic solution.
